Oh, how the mighty have fallen—or rather, how the glitterati have pivoted. Rumor about town is that the Chanel store that once turned away Bethenny Frankel like she was asking to borrow a Birkin will soon be reincarnated as a Rolex boutique. From quilted handbags to ticking status symbols, it seems the space has decided to trade in its fashionista cred for horological clout. Personally, I’ve always confused Rolodex with Rolex, which is probably why my watch never works and my networking game is stuck in the ’90s. But what will this mean for the summer visitors, armed with their selfie sticks and designer aspirations? Without that iconic black-and-white Chanel sign as their backdrop, will they now pose contemplatively next to a Datejust display, pretending to ponder the meaning of time? Or maybe they’ll just skip it and head straight to the ice cream shop. The real question is, where will Bethenny go next?
Canoe Place Inn has officially hit the jackpot, now under the culinary command of none other than Danny Meyer, the hospitality wizard behind Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, and yes, the global burger empire Shake Shack. He’s also the author of Setting the Table, which is basically the Bible for anyone who wants to know how to run a restaurant—or just host a dinner party that doesn’t end in tears. I swung by a few weeks ago, and let me tell you, the food was so good I almost forgot I was in the Hamptons, where dining out usually requires a small loan. Shockingly, the prices were some of the most reasonable I’ve seen east of the canal. Good food and fair prices? Danny Meyer might just be the unicorn the Hamptons didn’t know it needed. By the way, they have a great Happy Hour! Click for details.
