In the meantime… here’s the info on a great event! I just hope there are no carbs!?
The culinary world’s finest gather again to keep the name and spirit alive of their friend and colleague Steven Scher, who passed away in December of 2008. On July 13, 2009, an impressive roster of the country’s most revered chefs roll up their sleeves to participate in a walk around tasting where guests will be able to sample signature delicacies and rub elbows with their favorite stars from the restaurant and food tv world.
All the participants have a special place in their hearts for the late restaurateur and are enthusiastic about raising funds to benefit the James Beard Foundation and the scholarship for aspiring restaurateurs that bears Steven Scher’s name.
The evening will be filled with surprises as celebrities and luminaries from the restaurant world–many of whom have graciously donated dinner and other packages to the silent auction–drop by to personally support this most worthwhile cause. A live auction with unique and exciting offerings will also take place. Travel packages to Las Vegas and a NYC Wine and Food Festival package generously donated by Lee Brian Schrager, promise to get the crowd bidding. Other hot-ticket items include dinner prepared by a top chef in the home of the highest bidder and a coveted, rarely available table at Raos. Chefs for Scher will be the number one food event this summer, and we know Steve wouldn’t have it any other way.
The event begins with a VIP hour at 6:30pm and general public from 7:30 to 10:30pm.
Live auction at 9pm; Silent Auction throughout the evening.
Per person ticket pricing is:
$225 for VIP
$150 for general admission
Any amount over $100 is 100% tax-deductible.

Who has the best burger in Sag Harbor??? Well, I just snapped this picture of Bay Burger in Sag Harbor and it appears to be another busy day at this hoppin little burger joint. Better yet go to the CORNER BAR in Sag Harbor, they have one amazing burger adn the price is right and the staff are cool and friendly. For something on the finer end… The New Paradise Cafe… sit at the bar and make sure you tell Howie I sent you! I’ll talk more about Howie in another post.. he runs the Cheers bar of Sag Harbor. I like to think of myself as the Cliff of town.
I’m sweaty and I’m in pain… and that’s the good news. For those of you just coming out east for the first time since last year, Zone Hampton has undergone some changes. Gone are the old stationary spin cycles, and in are RealRyder Core Balance bikes. According to local legend (Sam who does the check in) these bikes help you burn up to 30% more calories than a normal spin class. I need to burn more calories too… my closet is starting to look like the “huskies” section from MEN’S WEARHOUSE. The manufacturers web site states that this bike “It tilts, turns, and banks like an outdoor bike–works out the core, upper body, legs, cardio, and improves balance the way other indoor cycling bikes can’t.” The first time I tried to get on I fell off the bike, which is better than falling off the wagon!
While going fast at spin class is good… going fast anywhere in the Hamptons is very bad. The Hamptons have always been a bad place for future Andretti’s but this year it seems worse! They’re are speed traps everywhere!!! I mean EVERYWHERE! If you don’t carry a fresh box of Krispe Creme donuts I advise you all to mind the speedometer. So… what are you to do… keep the following in mind:
Located on North Main St., just west of the IGA is the amazing LUCY’S WHEY. You’ll love every aisle of Lucy’s!! (heheh) As you can tell from the picture to the left here, it’s a purveyor of “American artisan cheese.” I’m not sure exactly what that means but the stuff is good. I’m not a cheese snob, in fact I’m from the Philly area and up until very recently my very favorite cheese came out of a can! The staff at Lucy’s is friendly and really helpful, without being snobs and making you feel like an idiot for not knowing the difference between a Roth Kase Grand Cru Gruyere Surchoix and a Manchego. I love cheese and despite what a certain broker told me once “A fondue in June!?!?.. I say who cares.. do you eat grilled cheese in the summer?! The Swiss and French eat fondue year round!! I’m sailing now to the Isle of LUCY’S ..NOW OUT OF MY FACE!
Hermes has hit the Hamptons. PERFECT!! WE REALLY NEEDED AN HERMES IN EAST HAMPTON… it felt like we were all hicks
that!) But before you trade in that Martha Stewart Living towel for something more glamorous, I’ll make you this offer. I’ll personally bring you a fluffy Martha towel and shake martinis for you all afternoon long. And no I won’t be wearing a bathing suit!! Don’t even go there!!
