I love “30 Rock” and Alec Baldwin too…. 10 friendliest in the Hamptons!!! Plus Almond has new location!

I’ve been meaning to write this blog for about two weeks. I was reading the NY Post last week (no I don’t pay for it)!and once again harping on Alec Baldwin for claiming residency in the Hamptons. I don’t know why the press has this tendency to be so harsh on him but I can tell you for sure, Alec Baldwin lives in the Hamptons… and yes YEAR ROUND.

You always see him around and he’s very supportive of all things Hamptons. From Guild Hall to Bay Street Theatre to the Hamptons International Film Festival. He dines at the restaurants on Wednesday nights in February when it’s usually two other people in the place. He’s often quiet but never rude and always a gentleman.

I also have a soft spot for him, not just because I love “30 Rock” but also because he did something really kind for a friend of mine’s mother. My college roommate had the misfortune of being onboard the crash of Swiss Air 111. Shortly after the accident his mom was in NY organizing some things when she ran into Mr. Baldwin. He spent almost a half hour chatting her up, making her day and completely unaware of the circumstances. Cheers! You’re a cool guy Alec. There are other celebrities who deserve to be picked on… he’s not one of them.

So this had me thinking. I’ve met a lot of celebrities in my TV days and ton here out in the Hamptons. There were some I liked and some I thought were complete jerks (#1 Mira Sorvino). But the question we’re addressing.. who are the cool and nice celebs in the Hamptons?! Here’s my top 10!

#1 Alec Baldwin… See above!
#2 Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick… SJP because she thought she remembered me and Peter… we never met before. And Matthew Broderick because I saw him smiling to a group on the street one day who kept calling him “Ferris Bullauh!”
#3 Julie Andrews… never met her but she’s Mary Poppins! She has to be nice!
#4 Lorraine Bracco… cool lady, makes great wine and pitches in to help the domestic violence center THE RETREAT!
#5 Matt Lauer… see previous blog about him taking the Polar Plunge!
#6 Jon Bon Jovi…. he goes to spin class and doesn’t grunt and act pompous like a certain annoying, grunting, skinny academy award winner!
#7 Ina Garten…. the coconut cupcakes! Is she nice?! I have no clue.. but did I mention the coconut cupcakes?!
#8 Paul McCartney…. I never met him but always hear good stories about him from all the folks in town. He used to frequent Nichols in East Hampton, although I never saw him there. But I will tell you, I wouldn’t go to Nichols if I were Paul McCartney.
#9 Kelsey Grammer … nice to all at the various charity events. Was seen partying with my mother in law Mimi at the Bay Street Gala a few years ago!
#10 George Stephanopoulos…. why is he here?! Well I saw Good Morning America this morning and I feel bad for him. Add Robin Roberts to the list too. They’re both too talented for such Today show rehash. Also sympathy for having to look at Sam Champion’s International Male outfits at company functions!

Not so nice!? The domestic goddess, the writer of that book where Michael J. Fox starred in the movie… The guy from Watergate and the grammy winner.

FINALLY!!! I have information that Almond formerly of Bridgehampton has a new location! They’ll be going into the old OLD STOVE PUB in Wainscott. My source is highly reliable but it’s not Eric Lemonides the owner. But I trust this source enough to say, drinks are on me if that’s not where it’s going. Apparently after a bid for the very quiet Copa went south.. the new loacation has been found! See you there soon!!!

Tomorrow advice on Valentines Day!

Lights, Camera, Hamptons!!! Yes, SJP.. you won’t be the only one bringing home the bacon!

Well Ferris Bueller’s days off are finally over. Word has it that Matthew Jessica Broderick has signed up to star in a new series about the Hamptons. According to a report in Reuters, the actor who has been “long courted” by networks to do a television show has finally relented. (What networks where they?! History Channel, Lifetime or worse NBC?!) Yes, it’s NBC but after the great LENO experiment I guess they’re scrambling for anything to fill air!

Anyway, Jessica Broderick is attached to star in NBC’s comedy pilot “Beach Lane,” which was apparently given a green light Monday.

“Beach Lane,” is being produced by Universal Studios and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video… and if you have any doubt if it will be a quality project just rent the movies “Superstar, It’s Pat or A Night at the Roxbury! Yes, Mr. Michaels knows funny! The series will revolve around a celebrity author played by Jessica Broderick who is hired by an irresponsible millionaire heir to run his struggling small-town newspaper in the Hamptons. Sounds familiar huh?! Right?!

Now, ok “30 Rock” is one of the best shows on television but without Tina Fey, will this puppy fly? Broderick’s involvement in “Beach Lane” comes on the heels of his guest stint on NBC’s “30 Rock,” which is also produced by Michaels.

Michaels is executive producing “Beach Lane” with Marci (Calvin’s daughter) Klein, a coproducer on “30 Rock.”

So, now can I suggest some characters for the show?! I promise they won’t all be real estate agents but since they are the majority of the inhabitants out here…

Here’s two great characters for the show! In fact, let’s make them a couple who are high powered real estate agents who like going to restaurants, getting toasted and screaming to patrons to “f-ing google” their names!?! I envision lots of hilarity, bar fights and bitch slapping from this duo of characters, what do you think? I think Danny Devitio and Joan Rivers would be perfect casting!!!

Hmmmm… one more… how about the corrupt town mayor who skims money out of the town funds for personal pet projects and personal expenses!! He’ll be charming and suave. I see Larry David cast in this part!!!

OK, my last one… the lovable and dashingly handsome restaurateur who always buys dinner for a handsome and charming real estate blogger!!! I imagine Brad Pitt staring as the restaurant owner. Too obvious!?

SPIN, SPIN, SPIN…. BUT NOT TOO FAST! WE HAVE RULES AGAINST THAT IN THE HAMPTONS!!

I’m sweaty and I’m in pain… and that’s the good news. For those of you just coming out east for the first time since last year, Zone Hampton has undergone some changes. Gone are the old stationary spin cycles, and in are RealRyder Core Balance bikes. According to local legend (Sam who does the check in) these bikes help you burn up to 30% more calories than a normal spin class. I need to burn more calories too… my closet is starting to look like the “huskies” section from MEN’S WEARHOUSE. The manufacturers web site states that this bike “It tilts, turns, and banks like an outdoor bike–works out the core, upper body, legs, cardio, and improves balance the way other indoor cycling bikes can’t.” The first time I tried to get on I fell off the bike, which is better than falling off the wagon!

I went Sunday, Wed and this morning and I feel like Grandpa Walton. Zone Hampton is great, the instructors are fun and the occasional star watching is fun too; Matthew Broderick was in one of my classes and Renee Zellwegererereazzxer… you know the chick from “Jerry Maguire” has been spotted. This in spite of the fact she came skillfully disguised in hat and sunglasses (which must have caused even more sweating). If you happen to know Ms Renee, tell her shouting and squealing like a mouse caught in a glue trap can blow your cover! Anyway, more information about the classes? Go to… http://www.ridethezone.com/.
While going fast at spin class is good… going fast anywhere in the Hamptons is very bad. The Hamptons have always been a bad place for future Andretti’s but this year it seems worse! They’re are speed traps everywhere!!! I mean EVERYWHERE! If you don’t carry a fresh box of Krispe Creme donuts I advise you all to mind the speedometer. So… what are you to do… keep the following in mind:
-East Hampton… don’t go down Race Lane on weekend mornings if you have an expired inspection sticker. The town police are often there checking every car that goes by.
-Main St. Sag Harbor, East and Southampton… don’t speed… not only is it dangerous (pedestrians pop out of cars all of the time) but they’re there with radar guns… ALL OF THE TIME!
-Coming into Southampton where route 27 enters into Southampton by Mason Ole or as I call it Mason Ptomaine! Anyway, the nasty signs are gone.. but the speed traps are not!!!
-Finally on Scuttle Hole Rd. in Water Mill where it meets Head of Pond, don’t’ even think of speeding… not only will you get a ticket but you may very well be eating venison for dinner and have a hefty hefty repair bill for the new cracked grill! Personally, I find venison too gamy so I drive the speed limit!
If you don’t want to take my advice and you get busted… I found this website… I’ve never had to use them but i love the address; http://southamptontraffictickets.com/
Finally we’re almost done our sample unit at 21 W. Water St. http://www.21wwater.com/. If you’re on my mailing list don’t worry you’ll be invited to our sunset cocktail soiree in the next week or so! It’s going to be awesome, AWESOME, AWESOME, so make sure you’re on my list and e mail me!! Ciao!
